UGI Utilities has announced the commencement of substantial system upgrades in Union Township, including sections of Winfield, with work scheduled to begin on June 23. This project highlights UGI's ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety and dependability of its energy delivery systems. The initiative encompasses not only the replacement of aging gas mains but also provides a unique opportunity for select residences and commercial establishments along the construction path to transition to natural gas service, potentially offering economic and environmental benefits.
The upgrade operations, expected to be completed by early September, will impact multiple roadways. Specifically, work will occur on Trutt Road between County Line Road and Felmey Road, along Woodsedge Drive from Trutt Road to its cul-de-sac, and on Felmey Road from Trutt Road to Amish Road. Furthermore, UGI will replace the service lines connecting to customer properties on Felmey Road, Park Road, Shirley Drive, and Westbranch Highway. Construction is planned for weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., which will likely result in road closures, established detours, and significant traffic delays. Parking will be prohibited on the affected streets during these working hours to facilitate the construction process.
Customers in the immediate vicinity should prepare for temporary disruptions to their natural gas service. UGI personnel will require access to properties to conduct safety inspections of appliances and to relight pilot lights once service is restored. The overall project schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and other on-site factors. Following the completion of the underground infrastructure work, final paving and restoration of the affected areas will be conducted.
