A new study by WalletHub has identified the most and least stressed cities in America for 2025, shedding light on how different urban areas handle stress amidst growing national anxieties. The report, which analyzed over 180 cities across 39 metrics, including average weekly work hours, unemployment rates, and divorce and suicide rates, aims to provide a comprehensive look at stress factors affecting Americans today.
Detroit, Michigan, tops the list as the most stressed city, followed by Cleveland, Ohio, and Baltimore, Maryland. On the other end of the spectrum, South Burlington, Vermont, Fremont, California, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, are among the least stressed cities. The study also highlights significant disparities between cities, such as Rapid City, South Dakota, having an unemployment rate 6.3 times lower than Detroit's, and Fremont, California, boasting a divorce rate 4.4 times lower than Cleveland's.
These findings underscore the varying degrees of stress across the country, influenced by economic stability, health, and social factors. The study's insights could help policymakers and communities address the root causes of stress and improve quality of life for residents. For more details, the full report is available here.
