OTE Corp Secures $3.5M Contract to Design OTEC System for Remote Military Base

Ocean Thermal Energy Corporation (OTE Corp) has secured a $3.5 million contract with Johnson Controls to design and assess an innovative renewable energy system for the U.S. Army Garrison - Kwajalein Atoll, potentially revolutionizing energy solutions for remote military bases.

The project aims to deploy a 17.5MW Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) system that harnesses natural ocean temperature differences to generate clean, continuous power and desalinated water. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in sustainable energy technologies for military installations.

Working alongside DCO Energy, OTE Corp will develop a comprehensive system design including project load analysis, conceptual engineering, and cost estimation. The initiative builds upon previous successful projects, such as a seawater cooling system design for a Bahamian resort and a 7.5 MW OTEC conceptual design for Bahamas Power and Light.

The project's key objectives include validating OTEC system feasibility for remote military bases, demonstrating system reliability and scalability, and collaborating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to meet specific operational requirements.

Beyond energy production, the team will explore seawater desalination capabilities, offering a holistic approach to addressing both energy and water resilience challenges at the Kwajalein Atoll site.

Jeremy P. Feakins, Chairman and CEO of OTE Corp, emphasized the project's significance, noting that the partnership with Johnson Controls highlights the transformative potential of OTEC technology in enhancing operational resilience and integrating renewable energy into national defense strategies.

The initiative represents a critical step toward reducing military installations' dependence on imported fossil fuels while providing sustainable, reliable energy solutions in challenging geographical contexts.
